B.B. King was an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was born on September 25, 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi and died on May 14, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. B.B. King was one of the most famous and influential musicians of the 20th century. He played a major role in shaping electric blues guitar playing and influenced numerous guitarists. Politically, B.B. King was an active supporter of civil rights for African Americans. In the 1960s he performed together with Martin Luther King Jr. and campaigned for equal rights for blacks in the USA.
B.B. King's music is deeply rooted in American blues and has evolved steadily throughout his career. In the 1950s, he managed to combine Chicago blues with New Orleans blues to develop his own style. He became world famous in 1970 with his hit "The Thrill is Gone," which also reached mainstream audiences. Until his death in May 2015, B.B. King toured regularly throughout the U.S. and the world, thrilling millions with his music."
